Be 21 years of age or older
Have a relatively stable vision over the last 18 months
Have a healthy cornea, retina, and eye pressure
Have no major eye diseases
Have no evidence of collagen vascular, autoimmune or immunodeficiency disease
Not be pregnant or nursing
Not have a history of herpes infection of the eye

Your eye will be anesthtized with eye drops so you will feel no pain during and immediately after the surgery. You may experience a foreign body sensation a few hours after the surgery, which should disappear by the following day.

When Will I Be Able To Return To Work?
Most patients are able to return to work the day after the surgery.

What Kind Of Results Can I Expect From LASIK Surgery?
There are several factors, which determine your visual acuity after LASIK. Prior to surgery Dr. Leonard Bley will be able to give you a very good estimate as to what your vision will be after surgery.

Are There Any Side Effects From LASIK Surgery?
The two most common side effects (occur in relatively few patients) are glare and dry eyes. These side effects are becoming less and less common with the newer technologies and advancements used at New York Lasik Center.

Will My Vision After LASIK Surgery Be Permanent?
Yes, however there are always exceptions to the rule. You may experience a slight regression and need an enhancement. Although enhancements are rare, less than 5% of our patients need enhancements, you should be aware that it may be necessary.

Will I Have To Take Any Medication After Surgery?
Usually you will take two sets if eye drops, which we provide, for 4 days

After LASIK Surgery Will I Need Reading Glasses?
Most people need reading glasses after they turn 40 years of age whether you are nearsighted or farsighted. However, Dr. Leonard Bley has the ability to keep one eye slightly nearsighted so you wont need reading glasses. This is called monovision.

What Should I Do Before LASIK Surgery?
Soft lens wearers - Discontinue wearing lenses at least 1 week prior to evaluation date- No Cheating! Wearing your lenses even one day during that period could result in poor outcomes.
Hard/Gas Perm Lens Wearers - Special instructions and appointments to be given due to warping of the cornea
Please refrain from taking any antihistamines and decongestants one week prior to surgery as this will dry our your eyes
Let us know if you are taking Accutane, Immitrex or Corderone. These medications may delay your surgery
Pregnancy is a contraindication for LASIK. Please let us know if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant
No make-up, creams or lotions three days prior and on the day of surgery. For optimum results, eye make-up should be discontinued one week before surgery
Lid Scrubs (baby shampoo + water) are to be done to cleanse the eye lids one week prior to but not on the day of surgery. Instructions to follow.
