Am I A Good Candidate For LASIK?                                                    [TOP]

Be 21 years of age or older
Have a relatively stable vision over the last 18 months
Have a healthy cornea, retina, and eye pressure
Have no major eye diseases
Have no evidence of collagen vascular, autoimmune or immunodeficiency disease
Not be pregnant or nursing
Not have a history of herpes infection of the eye

 

 

Is LASIK A Painful Surgery?                                                                [TOP]

Your eye will be anesthtized with eye drops so you will feel no pain during and immediately after the surgery. You may experience a foreign body sensation a few hours after the surgery, which should disappear by the following day.

 

  When Will I Be Able To Return To Work?                                         [TOP]

Most patients are able to return to work the day after the surgery.

 

   What Kind Of Results Can I Expect From LASIK Surgery?         [TOP]

There are several factors, which determine your visual acuity after LASIK. Prior to surgery Dr. Leonard Bley will be able to give you a very good estimate as to what your vision will be after surgery.

 

  Are There Any Side Effects From LASIK Surgery?                [TOP]

The two most common side effects (occur in relatively few patients) are glare and dry eyes. These side effects are becoming less and less common with the newer technologies and advancements used at New York Lasik Center.

 

 

 Will My Vision After LASIK Surgery Be Permanent?                 [TOP]

Yes, however there are always exceptions to the rule. You may experience a slight regression and need an enhancement. Although enhancements are rare, less than 5% of our patients need enhancements, you should be aware that it may be necessary.

 

 

How Much Does LASIK Cost?                                                              [TOP]

Cost depends on several factors
a) Are you nearsighted?
b) Are you farsighted?
c) Are you astigmatic?
during your free consultation, Dr. Leonard Bley will tell you the exact price of your surgery

Remember you should not look for a bargain when looking to buy:
a) parachute
b) bullet proof vest
c) eye surgery

 

 

Will I Have To Take Any Medication After Surgery?                     [TOP]

Usually you will take two sets if eye drops, which we provide, for 4 days

 

 

Can I Go Blind From LASIK?                                                             [TOP]

Dr. Leonard Bley has done thousands of LASIK procedures and none of his patients has ever lost their vision from this procedure

 

 

After LASIK Surgery Will I Need Reading Glasses?                           [TOP]

Most people need reading glasses after they turn 40 years of age whether you are nearsighted or farsighted. However, Dr. Leonard Bley has the ability to keep one eye slightly nearsighted so you wont need reading glasses. This is called monovision.

 

What Should I Do Before LASIK Surgery?                                     [TOP]

 

   

Soft lens wearers - Discontinue wearing lenses at least 1 week prior to evaluation date- No Cheating! Wearing your lenses even one day during that period could result in poor outcomes.

Hard/Gas Perm Lens Wearers - Special instructions and appointments to be given due to warping of the cornea

Please refrain from taking any antihistamines and decongestants one week prior to surgery as this will dry our your eyes

Let us know if you are taking Accutane, Immitrex or Corderone. These medications may delay your surgery

Pregnancy is a contraindication for LASIK. Please let us know if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant

No make-up, creams or lotions three days prior and on the day of surgery. For optimum results, eye make-up should be discontinued one week before surgery

Lid Scrubs (baby shampoo + water) are to be done to cleanse the eye lids one week prior to but not on the day of surgery. Instructions to follow.

   What Should I Do The Day Of LASIK Surgery?                             [TOP]

Nothing with a fragrance should be worn/used on this day. Head to Toe!! Fragrances affect the optics within the laser and your ultimate outcome!

Wear comfortable clothing. Try not to wear clothes that shed (sweaters).

No smoking and no caffeine the morning of surgery.

Payment is due on or before the day of surgery. We accept cash, check, Master Card, Visa and American Express. ( LASIK is an approved expenditure for medical spending accounts).

After surgery, when you leave our office, Dr. Bley asks that you go straight home and eat & sleep Sleeping allows for faster healing .

   
   
   
   
 
   
   What Should I Do After LASIK Surgery?                                   [TOP]

Post-op appointments are next day, one week, one month, three months and one year. Please Note that we certainly see you any other time during the first year should you feel it necessary all of these visits are included in your surgical fee.

Be careful for one week not to get shower water directly in your eyes. Keep a towel handy or use a removable showerhead for easier direction.

No swimming, hot tubs or saunas for two weeks after surgery.
Stay out of dirty or chemically enhanced environments for at least one week.
   
   
   
   
       
     What kind of lasers Dr. Bley is using?                          [TOP]

Dr. Bley is using Visx Star S4, B & L Zyoptix, Alcon Autonomus Ladar Vision.
The intralase bladeless lasik is available for qualified candidates
